A man is accused of beating another man to death with a hammer at the victim’s South Los Angeles home. Investigators say the alleged attacker was homeless and that the victim had allowed him to live in his backyard.

Deputies responded to reports of a fight in the 1000 block of W. 98th Street yesterday at about 6:30 p.m. They located the wounded homeowner in the backyard. He died of his injuries at the scene.

The other man was arrested nearby. Investigators say the pair got into a fight, during which the suspect allegedly hit the victim on the head with a hammer before attempting to flee.

The Sheriff’s Department has not released any additional details at this time.
